Book II is launching!

So, my publisher told me the e-book for Shards Of The Glass Slipper: Queen Alice (book II) will be set upon the world in the next few hours. By tomorrow in the morning at some point.
I find myself musing and reflecting a bit so I thought I'd share some thoughts.

I did it. Again.  Oops.
I published another novel. As they say it gets easier. It does and it doesn't.
This book took some time to get it figured out.  Technically this is the second of three novels planned, but it was easier to get this book out  in a timely fashion with out having to drag things out. So lots of editing of the story lines and rearranging and plot trimming and adding and pulling from the planned plots of books II and III. It made for a much more complex story for this book II but one that also covers a lot of ground. Maybe it's a good thing, I don't know.

It's the follow up book to my debut novel.... about to go out into the world. I think I'm more nervous now than I was with the first one.. that was exciting. This time it's more nerve racking.
Will people "get" what I'm doing?  Will I let  people down? Can I deliver an awesome  second book, or will it be mired in disappointment?

I hope people like it. Expectations and all that aside.. I can't tell if what I've done people will respond to. I'm too close. For me, the author, everything makes sense and...  and I handled all of the edits.
I'm pretty sure I did. did I? I hope I did. I'm sure I'll hear about it otherwise. I really tied to make sure of it. This is when the little voices sneak in and start to question everything. When it's too late.

I tried to do some things a little different and I hope people get it. I'm doing this different because I want to and because I'd like to think my readers are smart and they get it. The way the story is structured,  it was big, epic. Couldn't fit into one book. barely fit it into two books. There's a third book in me somewhere. We'll get to that at a later time. So I had to break it up into Book I and Book II.... because no publisher would agree to print a 700 page book.
But it's meant to be a whole and the second book reflects that.

I can imagine sitting in some writer conference with an audience full of hopeful writers scribbling notes and authors, editors and publishers sitting at the front  telling them about  all the things that you shouldn't do in your novel.
... and in book II I'm probably doing all of those things they listed.
I hope that's okay. Tough rocks if it isn't. You won't stand out in a crowd if you don't stand up in a crowd. The first book opens with a dark and stormy night and ends with a cliffhanger. But these are the stories I enjoy So I write to that.

I worked hard on this book and story since 2006 ( 2005?) to get to this point. There were far more skeptics than supporters throughout that journey. Some people just didn't get it.  But I never gave up. I pushed on harder in spite of the skeptics. They'll take credit for that I'm sure...  just to justify their own lack of ambitions.
Shards of the Glass Slipper... This is the story I wanted to tell and read and it's presented in a way I'd want read it. It's my story, anyone else who likes it is just another sprinkle on the icing of the cake.

I'm extremely proud of what I've accomplished so far.  I'm especially proud of the work I've done for Book II.
I've still got plans. I'm not done with this yet.. but right now Book II has to get some of the spotlight.
Hopefully the world will enjoy my story.
